@Chewy I saw you down 6-8 at half time and feared Stallone would get one over you...

I like to start the season with around 27-28 players and then around this date I trim it down to 24-25. It allows me better energy and form management while getting some extra cash and when we reach halfway through the season I can cut down costs and also fire declining players.
I fired three players this week.

Ha maybe... could be a decent match up I have an important League match that should make energy management a challenge.

Do not tempt me... I told myself round 7 was ok and being beaten by the Fellas was a decent exit... and was aleeady planning the long term strategy... if you give me the whisper of a hope I may fall into the trap Razz

Strange Cup game between me and Fellas. He roared out to a 16-0 lead after 35 minutes, then I scored 42 unanswered points Shocked Credit to elsteveo for giving it a go.

It happens often. Take this game. The home side jumps to a 23-0 start only to eventually fall to Sta and higher CSR.

But the Resistencia was equal at 9.5 stars each in the Cup match.

LOL. I didn't realize it was the translation to Spa.

In the Cup game the Fellas had a lower Sta but LTNT levelled the Sta stars. When the LTNT drop happened, the Catfish Crusaders had the advantage.

But what do the stars represent? Ratings at the start of the game, end of the game, or an average?

Re: Season 30 General Discussion

In my understanding the stars are the following:

Let a(n)= a1, a2, a3, ..., a15 the STA values of a starting XV.
Let f(x1, x2,...,x15,intensity) over R be a function that
- is monotone nondecreasing for any x
- 0 <= f(x1,x2...,x15,intensity) <= 12
- f(wnwim) <= f (normal) <= f (ltnt)

Then we say f(a1,a2,a3...,a15,intensity) are the stars of a(n)

Math parodies aside, the important thing about the stars is they are a more or less reliable indication of how fast the skills of players will decrease with fatigue as time goes on. But the limitation of the stamina stars are:

- a player with a high value in a skill (say speed) will be more affectedby fatigue if the fatigue is calculated as a % of the player's skill value (5% of 20 is more than 5% of 15).

-players with lower energy levels start with lower skill values but are less influenced by fatigue (if fatigue is a % and energy also represents a %)

- the effects of a low sta halfback are different than the effects of a low sta tighthead prop.

- it can be assumed that just like the speed of a player that is playing ltnt is higher, his drop due to fatigue is also faster (taking into account the modified sta because of the higher intensity). An example:

John Doe
Sta 17
Speed 16
Because of the ltnt let us assume he is playing like sta 18 and speed 17. But if normally he drops a 1% each 3 minutes (not true, just a supposition), because of the ltnt he drops 1.5% each 3 minutes.
The questions should be:
- for how long the player with ltnt has a better overall skill set than the same player with normal?
- is the area of the difference over the period when it is higher greater than the area of the difference over the period when it is lower?

Clearly stars are a good indicator, but byno means the whole story.

This league has been the best contest in a long while. Some very close results. Rhymes with Orange will drop away, as will I after I loose to monkey nuts. The playoff spots are definitely still up in the air

Yeah there have been some really close ones. Definitely the most exciting league I have been involved in. I am thinking that our match in round 14 might be a decider for the playoffs.

It will be a very close run thing, it may be too late for me by then though if the breakaways and dingos win a few. I'd agree with the exciting league though, lucky results have gone my way and a draw that didn't, my goal has changed mid season from avoiding auto relegation to making playoffs. Would help my finances greatly!
