Season 26 Discussion!

Post by Bren on Mon Aug 17, 2015 11:10 am

Big season this one, got a World Cup to host and the first step of the revamp to look forward to.

I'm still recovering from the effects of my hiatus. My NZ team was in pretty good shape but my Dutch team needed a bit of an overhaul to get back on track.

My goals.

Barbecued Duck (NZ)
1. Defend my division three title.
2. Promote (yeah nah)
3. Get a good run in the cup going. Try to take down one team bigger than me if I can.
4. Get my youth team back on track. Got a shit-ton of stars to work with so can hopefully get a few good candidates for the Season 32 generation. Got room to train two of those players and will have level 5 facilities by then (glee)

Mint Julep (NL)
1. Finish in the top three.
2. Get a good run in the cup going. Try to take down one team bigger than me if I can.
3. Still got a few declining players I need to get rid of.

My goals are the same for both my teams:

1) survive the season without auto relegation
2) train U20 players

Im not messing around this season.... drunken

1. Earn a home playoff spot for the finals (that might actually help me to make the final)
2. Reach the semi-finals of the National Cup
3. Make it beyond the first knock-out round in the WCC (i went winless last season)
4. If i get another shot at the Ranfurly Shield, win it and succesfully defend it for more than 1 game

This season's going to be an interesting one for me. I somehow made a div 2 final last season and it would be great if I could repeat that effort, however I wouldn't bet on it... It would be good to do well in the nzi too but im probably seeded far higher than I should be due to my current world ranking

I'm trying something new in my pack.

1. 201cm 121kg
2. 186cm 116kg
3. 200cm 122kg
4. 202cm 121kg
5. 206cm 118kg
6. 200cm 107kg (to be replaced by 201/126 player in my academy)
7. 199cm 113kg
8. 201cm 129kg

Isn't your hocker too short... I thought there is a penalty if the front row has too much height difference

There is a penalty but apparently doesn't start until 25cm so I'm good.

Perceived wisdom is that penalties cut in at:
a) props of different heights - cuts in at 15cm
c) hookers shorter than props - cuts in at 25cm
c) hookers taller than props - cuts in at 5cm
d) locks of different heights - cuts in at 15cm
e) front row taller than second row - cuts in at 0cm! So make sure those locks are taller! (Though it is averaged out)

Damn good win today but only made 242k from a home game with a terrible crowd. Members went from Cynical to Buoyant, i expected a much greater gain from beating a team with a higher ranking than me. Thoughts on this?

A few things went against you.
You playing at home decreases the points exchange (and therefore less increased contentment) and you won by 15, when a margin of 16-30 would have given you an extra bonus in the points exchange calculations.

Random stat I dug up today, my first five, who has been in my team pretty much since I started playing br, has now scored nearly 7000 points for my club. That's over 25% of all the points scored in my clubs history. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar player in their squad?

I imagine the First Five who I retired at the start of the season has similar stats to that. I bought him a season after I started and he was my main point scorer up until now.

The player that's been with me the longest is one of my bench players. He was the first player I promoted from the youth academy (came out with 10k CSR -- 84k now) and I've never really seen a reason to get rid of him. He mainly just acts as fodder yet has managed to rack up 300+ caps for the club (plus somehow a couple of conversions and penalties).

He's 29 now so I imagine his time with the club is almost over.

Random note: my team is now ranked #49 in NZ after league action yesterday. This is the first time in the top 50! Yay!

a sell-out in my recently expanded stadium brought in almost a 1/2 a mil of revenue! (well, 449k, but that's still a lot) affraid

and I reckon I could expand it more again and keep filling it up (mood is at cheery only)

It is certainly encouraging that you can sell out 34410 with your member's mood only at cherry.

Re: Season 26 Discussion!

Post by Bren on Tue Sep 08, 2015 2:56 pm

I should be working but had a thought about comparing ranking to stadium capacity to see who's got the most over/undersized stadiums. Obviously, ranking points is a dodgy way to measure the ability of a team to handle stadiums but I thought it might be an interesting experiment.

These people have the most undersized stadiums (based on the size of the stadium versus a prediction of what their stadium size should be based on their rankings -- I'm not actually suggesting you expand/reduce your stadiums!). (Number in brackets is the current stadium size while the +/- figure is how much the formula thinks you can expand/reduce by).

I'll like to repeat that I'm not suggesting to anyone that they expand or reduce their stadiums based on this. It's just for fun.

Undersized
1. Innocent Dingo's (13673) +15546
2. Melville RFC (27589) +13528 #21 Stadium in NZ

4. FRuity Oenological Gastronomes (25200) +10071

7. Bangor Legends Of Brawl (5350) +9413
8. Norse Viking's (24600) +9371
9. Arsenal (19700) +8910
10. Les Noeuds Pap (6800) +8365
11. New Lynn Red Sox (24633) +7987
12. Napier Cavaliers (19450) +7189
